Peru: Localized quarantine begins today, runs thru July 31

10:07 | Lima, Jul. 1.

The Government has extended the state of national emergency until July 31, this time supported by a localized quarantine against COVID-19 focused on seven regions of Peru, while social isolation has been lifted in the rest of the country starting today.

A Supreme Decree published in an extraordinary edition of the official gazette El Peruano orders a targeted quarantine for minors under 14 years of age, as well as for people aged above 65 and citizens with comorbidities, who will remain under mandatory social isolation.

The regions of Arequipa, Ica, Junin, Huanuco, San Martin, Madre de Dios, and Ancash —which have registered increase in COVID-19 cases— will also remain under mandatory social isolation. In those areas, residents will be allowed to leave their homes only to have access to essential services and goods and to carry out authorized economic activities.

Curfew

In the remaining 17 regions of the country, Sundays' daytime compulsory social immobilization has been lifted. However, social immobilization (curfew) will be in force from 10:00 p.m. to 04:00 a.m. Mondays thru Sundays.

In the regions of Arequipa, Ica, Junin, Huanuco, San Martin, Madre de Dios and Ancash, compulsory social immobilization will run from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Mondays thru Saturdays. Compulsory social immobilization will be in force all day on Sundays.

Social distancing

Residents throughout the country must continue to observe social distancing of not less than one meter apart from one another, frequent hand washing practices, the use of face mask, and protect the elderly and people at risk.

Outdoor activity for minors

Children and teenagers are allowed one hour of supervised outdoor activity per day, if accompanied by an adult, within 500 meters of their home. In addition, they are banned from malls, indoor public places, and from joining gatherings of people.

Public sector

Public sector entities will resume operations and customer services at different times. The employees who have face-to-face interactions with customers will work from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and those who do not attend an in-person service from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Suspended activities

Furthermore, parades, patronal festivals, civil and religious activities, as well as social, political and cultural events remain suspended.

Finally, all borders remain closed and international transport —by any means— is still suspended, except for humanitarian purposes.

The Supreme Decree comes into force today.
